Uniform Reactions
By:  Shirley Ann Burton

I have seen news in the past weeks,
And I am saddened by what took place.
However, I do not want to give in to the nightmare
As I want to go on with my life.

I do not want to watch news too often,
For all it will do is paralyze me in fear.
My family, though, believes I do not care
Because I do not react in exactly the same way.

I understand one very important thing:
Not all people react to the same thing the same way.
Just because my reactions differ from others,
That does not mean I do not care.

I am trying to do what I believe is best in my heart,
To go on with life and live it to the fullest.
I will not allow anthrax or terrorism to haunt me,
And I will certainly not watch the news 24-7.

To be too absorbed with news is not a good thing,
For all it does is bring back the pain all over again.
I believe the best way to beat those responsible
Is to stand tall, be proud, and go on with life at its best.
